See you soon! Got back prelim results today. It's scary that everyone is improving by so much. I improved for all my subjects in terms of marks, but my grades still remain the same as for my CTs. The only signifcant improvement is a two-grade jump for Math, which I thought I could have done much better if I wasn't delirious with all the coughing and sniffing. Still, LOTS of room for improvement to be done in such a short span of time. It's nice how the teachers are so encouraging towards us now, especially Mr T's message to 6C42! K must really push myself all the way. All the best everyone! ![]() Saturday, October 3, 2009
Theodore the hamster I'm getting quite irritated with myself for being late most of the times. Today the 6 of us were supposed to meet at Lavender MRT at 5.30pm and I only woke up from my nap at 5.15pm. I overslept, maybe it was due to the cough syrup medicine but it is still my fault that I was late. I was quite angry with myself because I had prepared everything a few hours ago but I am still late to meet the others. So, I rushed all the way, only to have an exciting adventure to locate the venue of the restaurant, Pasta Inc. YT tried her best to explain to me the way there but I ended up at Kallang instead, so one waitress very patiently guided me to reunite with my friends who have been waiting for quite some time I suppose. She was even waiting for me outside the restaurant! 10/10 for their service & sincerity! Once I settled down, HF gave me a cute pen on the behalf of the others and to test the ink, I wrote on the paper laid on the table: "Thank you for directing me here". I hope the kind waitress sees the message I left for her! We were all very hungry, and the 5 of them even ordered appetisers while waiting for me. We ordered our food, and here's their speciality: Black Ink Squid Pasta? We had quite a silent meal as YJ & Jeanette didn't want to talk because if they did they would have to open their mouth and we would see their teeth stained with the black squid ink. After the meal, the waitress automatically gave me a surprise with a slice of tiramisu cake. Small little gifts! From L-R: Heart-shaped pen, jellies, hair gel, a can of mushrooms and a bottle of chicken essence with cordyceps.![]() We paid the bill (which is the worst part of the meal) and then left the restaurant after visiting their toilet. I like the attitude of the waiters there! Always smiling and very ready to serve/help their customers. Ichiban! So, Jean couldn't hide the huge plastic bag which was the finale present for the night. We ended up cornering the contents of the plastic bag at a bus stop. It was a super adorable male hamster in his cage. ![]() Ok my initial reaction was shock as it was a very unexpected kind of birthday present. Secondly, I was afraid that I wouldn't be a good owner and would cause it to die, just like how my goldfishes and terrapins died in my hands when I was in primary school. Thirdly, I feared that my mum would be against it, as she finds pets smelly. Lastly, OMG THE HAMSTER IS SO CUTEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! Yun Jing gave it the name "Kuchi kuchi" but I ended up renaming it as "Theodore", as inspired by the cute character of Theodore in the movie Alvin and the Chipmunks. ![]() It is a really adorable hamster, though it is still shy and seems to fear me. It doesn't respond to any name/food/water so far. It is very fat and loves to curl up and hide in a corner instead of running in his cage. I'm supposed to do regular reports to update the well being of Theodore to his 5 other 'mothers', a.k.a. Yun Tong, Yun Jing, Jean, Jeanette and Hui Fen. Seriously hope he won't become aneroxic or die in my hands... Overall, it was a good night spent, even though I could tell all of them were really dead tired. I saw the price tags they accidentally left on the hamster cage and hamster food, and I just wanna say: Thank you very the much! I know all these gifts must have cost a lot! Very weirdly, the presents we give each other are getting more and more expensive over the years while the number of birthday cards we receive are getting lesser over the years. Haha but it is really the thought that counts! My sister who is in Malaysia says she can't wait to see Theodore. And I've very kindly put her in charge of cleaning Theodore's cage. :) Alright folks, have a good sleep while we can. School's starting on Monday, our short break is ending, and we must gear up for the days to come. Whooooosh. Thursday, October 1, 2009
面包超人 This is a late entry about Teachers' Day Celebration on 31 Aug. It's my last one in DHS! I'm not sure if universities do celebrate Teachers' Day so if they don't then this will be my last for my schooling life. Even though we Yr 6s were tired from all the chionging, I think most/all of us had fun that day. So, the SCs took advantage of the huge success of the idea for last year's celebration and continued the dress-up-as-something idea for this year also. 6C42 dressed up as him as our superhero: Ok I don't watch this cartoon but I must say he's pretty cute. Especially that smiley face on his chest!Erm, I didn't go help out in the making of the props so to those who went, thank you very much! DH052, my PW group, also prepared chocolates and a card for Ms Devi, mainly to thank her for helping us to achieve our first A. (And it better not be my last.) Here's us with her, and our height difference is really hilarious. Wei Cheng's height is obviously an outlier. Some 4I girls with Lie Lao Shi! It has been almost 2 years without Chinese lessons and I quite miss them actually, now that I no longer need to do Chinese as a subject. M.S.C. unites!!!! Kian Hong had to be extra and join in the photo so I had no choice but to cross out his face...The concert was pretty normal. DHS kind of typical concerts. But I could still remember the audio was really bad for the video and the whole student cohort was very, very, irritatingly noisy. Afterwhich, we made our way to ION Orchard. It was my first time there and I think it will be my last, because the boutiques there are really too atas for me. Well, our main highlight for the day: Swensen's Ice-Cream buffet!!!! Mr Ong treated our class to the buffet, to reward us for our hard work so far. It must have cost him a hole in his wallet for that month! I doubt he'll read this, but I must say that he's really a superbly patient/caring/law-by-law-in-a-good-way teacher. So now you know why we've been going easy on the Canadian pizzas. Because we all were waiting to gorge ourselves silly with ice-cream. What a very smart business tactic by Swensen's! The very sweet stuffs made us quite sick of it after awhile and some of the class ended up ordering side dishes to neutralise the sweetness. I tried my best to eat as much as I could to make my money worth, but my relatively small appetite failed me. I tried carrot cake for my first time! Not those fried cai tao kway you get at hawker centres, but the angmoh kind of carrot cake! It tasted like.............................carrots lor. It was generally a fun day out, though I was quite tired. The ice-cream buffet was meant for lunch but it covered my dinner expenses as well. Thank you M.O.! Lastly, Happy Children's Day 2009! No more prelims Hi! I'm done with Prelims. The worst part about any examination is the checking of scripts though. Because it is only then do you see your mistakes and then grieve over them. I think along the preparatory months, I've come to realise that I really need to know black magic to get the stupid straight As but it is okay. I'll still continue to try right till the end. I unfortunately fell ill after Chem P2. Running nose, cough and mild gastric flu. Thankfully it isn't H1N1! And thanks to that I had a terrible time doing my revision because 1) I was easily tired and irritated because of all the mucus and phelgm and all. 2) The medicine I ate made me really drowsy and I did sleep a lot thanks to that, thus forgoing quite a bit of revision time. The night before Math P2 I really had the strong urge to take a MC and skip the paper. But the stubborn/timid me still went ahead with it. And it was quite a bad idea because halfway through the statistics portion, I was delirious and had to keep re-reading the question before I could understand what they were asking for. I was coughing real badly (sorry to those sitting near me!) and obviously was not in a very good condition to take a 3 hr paper. So, for the subsequent papers, I wasn't able to concentrate well due to my persistent coughing... I will be brave and accept the results next week! Gonna rest for awhile and then continue chionging. There's no time to waste at all! Must be kiasu and go start booking consultations also, especially for GP. I haven't had a single GP consultation this year! The day after Chem P3 was 18 Sept. It was my 18th birthday. A big heartfelt thank you to ALL who wished me happy birthday! Be it via sms, call or Facebook, it was really nice of you to remember! I had a really simple celebration at home, just your typical sing-birthday-song-then-cut-and-eat-cake kind of celebration. My sister bought me an orange volleyball, Elmo Y2010 organizer and an Elmo balloon. I can't wait till after A'levels so that I can practise with the vball! I seriously have a seemingly endless list of things to do post-A'levels and it sucks that most of the time when I get distracted during studying, it is because I'm thinking of the days after A'levels. But it is only/already 29 Sept today. Must make good use of this chance to get a really gooooooood sleep. Good night! Thursday, August 20, 2009
18 Aug 2009 My sister is getting (relatively) old. She's 20 years old now! Erm, 'old' is quite subjective right? My mum says if my sister is old then my mum must be a old grandmother now. On Sunday we went to have a feast to celebrate my sister's birthday. The main dish for this feast was crabs. My sister requested for it actually. I can't remember when was the last time I ate crabs, nor how did crabs taste like but now I do! So on Tuesday, when I was so shagged after taking the Econs Mock Exam and stressed out thanks to Chem time trial the next day (which tested on Ionic Equilibria and it's my 'favourite' cum 'best' topic), my sister's friends came and so we had a mini celebration cum cake cutting session together. Chocolate mousse cake with cute candles which I bought: So, after all the photo-taking/laughing/making of wish, we finally sat down and I thought that I could eat my slice of cake quietly in peace. Until a massive cake fight started. My sister was screaming so loudly I had to keep hushing her because it was really late in the night and her screams were so piercing. Her two friends, after attacking my sister with the cake, ended up attacking each other. Hahaha. I was not spared either. My sister lumped one piece of creamy cake on my face and me, being in a bad mood already, was trying my best to control myself and told her patiently to stop it. If not for the fact that it was her birthday, the usual me would have exploded already! Argh my temper is like so exothermic and that's not a very pleasant thing. All of us ended up cleaning up the room, with the floor full of chocolate cake crumbs. Waste of money/food, you say. So after they left, I finally had a chance to sit down and start on my Thermochemistry revision. What a way to end off a birthday celebration. Recently I'm trying my real best to be optimistic about everything and keep up with schoolwork, but when fatigue and disappointment sets in, it is really the survival of the fittest, both mentally and physically. Today's a school holiday thanks to the achievements by the 'Year 7s' and I'm thankful for that. For I managed to get at least 8 hours of sleep, and that is something I really cannot take for granted for! At least till 3 Dec. Bye bye! Sunday, August 9, 2009
8:22? So, today's 9 Aug. We celebrate Singapore's 44th birthday. I managed to watch this year's NDP for awhile, saw the fireworks and when I asked my mum how much fireworks cost, she replied: "Don't know but should have at least a few zeros". Hmmm government expenditure. For some weird reason I have no idea what the national day song was for last year but this year I think the song by Electrico is pretty nice. Very 'electrifying' as described by the Chnl 5 news! This year we have this 8:22 Pledge moment thing, I don't know why did the organiser choose such a timing but my Mum and I hypothesised that it has something to do with fengshui. K, so I said my pledge! Did you? The school celebrated on last Friday, and Candis reminded me that it was the last time we would celebrate National Day in school. Did I get my facts right? I hope they aren't though. Maybe after I graduate from DHS, I'll miss attending flagraising ceremonies and singing the national anthem, something I myself often take granted for. I like this short film themed 'My pledge' which was shown on TV for quite a few times already: In case you say I don't support my own schoolmates, here's the version done by some Year 5s: Alright I've relaxed enough. The long National Day holiday allowed me to have a good sleep. Time sure is running out. It's August already! Quoting this year's national day song, looking at myself just next year, what do I see? There're only 44 available vacancies So, CTs results weren't that good. I did improve generally but it seems like I can never get past a C grade. And if you know which uni course I'm aiming for, you should know what kind of grades I'm aiming for. I was very scared the subject tutors will scream but in fact they seem to be much nicer now. I hope it's not because they've given up on me, but rather using the soft approach, which works a lot better than the hard one. My confidence level seems to be dropping, especially when bit by bit, many others are showing their powers. But I'm not giving up without trying! (Hard enough to not have any regrets.) During 6C42's birthday, this is the vegetarian cream cake we had: ![]() It takes a healthy body to conquer fatigue and stress. Hope the H1N1 virus won't affect any of us A-levels kids! Till then! |
